Have you been meaning to start that exercise program or join the local fitness club but just have not been able to take that first step? Many individuals especially those who have not exercised for a long time have difficulty getting started on the path to fitness. Here are a few tips that will give you the push you need to take that first step.

You know all the benefits to exercising and you may even have picked out the exercise program you plan on doing. All you need is the right push in that fitness direction. Does it help to know that exercising is not just good for your health, can prevent diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, kidney problems, stomach problems and stroke but it can also help you to lose weight and also help you to feel better.

One way to get you up and exercising is to take a picture of what you look like now and tape the picture where you can see it everyday. Make it a full body picture in which you are wearing something that really shows what your body looks like and doesn’t cover your body up. When you see the picture of your current body you will be reminded of the things that you want to change about your body (the flabby protruding abdomen, or the large thighs…insert your reason here). It may also be helpful to make a journal that will allow you to record your reasons for getting fit and also the progress you make towards your goal. Write down your measurements including your weight. Write down the exact exercise program you are planning on doing.

Get anything you need to do your exercise program such as clothing, shoes, equipment, music, friends to exercise with, scale, and also a weight chart.

If you need to get up earlier than normal to exercise make sure you have a working alarm clock and set it. Make a point to place the alarm clock across the room so you have to get up and out of bed and walk across the room in order to turn it off. This way your have to get up so you might as well stay up and start exercising.

It may help if you have a partner in crime such as a friend to remind you to exercise by calling you at the time you say you will start your exercising.

Something that works especially well for women is to go out and buy a really great looking outfit in a size smaller than your current size so that you can’t fit into it until you are working your exercise program and start to see the results of getting fit. Seeing that outfit in your closet everyday will help motivate you to start your exercise program and also to continue with it.
