Stumbling Blocks To Fitness
We all encounter stumbling blocks to fitness in our lives no matter what our age, race or culture. Everywhere you look in the world you see obese individuals, or individuals who lead a sedentary lifestyle. The sad part is, if we let these stumbling blocks become permanent features in our lives we can become unfit and unhealthy which leads to disease and ultimately to death. Some things in life we have no control over such as aging, our heredity and taxes but our fitness level we can have some measure of control over.
In order to have a fit body we need to eat a healthy diet, and exercise in a proper manner and in an adequate amount. We can decide to stay inactive or we can decide to increase our activity level slowly until we are exercising at a proper level to achieve fitness. We can choose to eat junk food and processed foods or we can choose to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and lean protein.
There are many people and organizations that are willing to help educate people on how to be fit including magazines, fitness class instructors, doctors and fitness coaches. Nutritionists can help us to learn about healthy diets and our doctors can tell us what a healthy weight is for our height. We can join a group such as a fitness class at the local YMCA or fitness club or we can form a neighborhood club to jog or walk together.
Sometimes the stumbling blocks to fitness come in the form of laziness, or lack of motivation and sometimes it comes in the form of lack of money or clothing. Basically laziness, lack of motivation, lack of money or clothing are all just excuses for putting off making a change in habit. Not eating properly and not exercising can become such a habit that it is difficult to do what we know we must in order to be fit.
In order to remove the stumbling blocks to fitness, we have to first recognize what they are such as the ones mentioned above. Once we understand what is stopping us from exercising or stopping us from eating a nutritious diet we can start to make plans to repair or remove our stumbling block.
If a stumbling block to exercising is not having enough time, you can set your alarm for 45 minutes earlier and go jogging for 30 minutes every morning. If your stumbling block is not being able to motivate yourself than buddy up with a friend or neighbor and go out running or play tennis or do some other physical activity together. Facing problems together with a close friend or family member always makes the problem seem smaller.
Sometimes we purposely put stumbling blocks in our fitness path because we are afraid of change or afraid of failure. Removing the stumbling block may be scary. Professional counseling can help people to put stumbling blocks into perspective and help us to achieve our goals.
