Get Fit Outside
Especially during the warmer weather months individuals look for ways to get fit outside instead of indoor in club or class. There are many ways to take advantage of the great outdoors and achieve body fitness. Getting outside to exercise helps to break the routine and the monotony that can sometimes set in with your regular exercise routine. The different terrains that can be found outside can even give you a challenging workout. Most cardio machines in a gym will only allow you to go forward or up but when you take your workout outside you can also climb hills, downhill, walk in sand and climb stairs and hike up steep terrain. Find your favorite park and use the monkey bars to do some stretching or practice pull-ups (remember those?)
The good part about exercising outside is that you won’t experience two workouts that will be the same do you know why? No two workout that you do outside are ever exactly the same because you can’t control the wind factor, temperature or you are in a different location and terrain. All of these different factors will make your workout slightly different or more challenging than other outdoor workouts.
There are plenty of physical activities to do outside such as going for a fast walk with your dog, or toss a Frisbee. You can also run around a high school or community track, go swimming in an outdoor pool, do some inline skating or rollar blading. Play a lively game of tennis or beach volleyball for a really good cardio workout. Working out in the garden is also a viable way to exercise outside because you can burn a lot of calories weeding, hoeing or pruning, raking or mowing the grass (with a push mower of course).
Exercising outside is for all age groups. Kids can play sports, ride bikes, and walk to neighborhood stores instead of riding in a car. Adults can go jogging with a neighbor or friend, wash the family car or swim in an outdoor pool. Even senior citizens can become fit by getting outside and doing something physical like going for a walk around the neighborhood or do some gardening.
When you take your fitness routine outside you can benefit from the sunshine, fresh breezes, and smells of the neighborhood such as that bakery down the street or florist around the corner. When you exercise outside you can meet up with neighbors and catch up on the latest neighborhood news. There is so much more to look at when you exercise outside such as flowerbeds, blue skies and fluffy white clouds.
There is just something about breathing in fresh air and feeling the rays of sunshine on your face that makes your step livelier. A routine that might have seemed boring at the gym is suddenly exciting because of the new surroundings.
